Hon. Kutesa hails Uganda-Russia relations

Uganda's Foreign Minister, Hon. Kutesa has hailed the good relations which exist between the Republic of Uganda and the Russian Federation. In a meeting he held with his Russian counterpart, H.E. Sergei Lavrov on the 12th, May 2014, Hon.Kutesa observed that Uganda and the Russian Federation and its predecessor, the Soviet Union have enjoyed good relations on account of the latter's not interfering in Uganda's internal affairs.

He called for public- private partnerships in the areas of energy, agriculture, and mineral extraction, considering that many minerals including tin, iron ore, phosphates, copper, gold, etc. had been discovered in Uganda.

Hon. Kutesa thanked the Russian Government for the scholarships offered to Uganda and reminded his host of President Musevenií»s long standing invitation to President Vladimir Putin to visit Uganda.

On his part, H.E. Sergei Lavrov called for the expansion of trade and economic cooperation through the establishment of Intergovernmental Committee on Cooperation (IGCC) to cover the areas of energy, economic, commercial, technical and military cooperation.
