Hon. Philemon Mateke has started work following his appointment by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the Minister of State for Regional Cooperation.

He previously served as state minister for education (1981-85) and state minister for labour (1998-2002). He takes over office from Hon. Asuman Kiyingi, who is now the State Minister for Works.
Minister Kiyingi welcomed Hon. Mateke to the ministry.   The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Okello Oryem, hailed Kiyingi for his co-operation, especially in the absence of Minister, Hon. Sam Kutesa and urged that the new minister be given all the support to run the ministry smoothly.  His Excellency Sam Kutesa is the current President of the UN General Assembly.
