H.E.GEN(RTD) YOWERI KAGUTA MUSEVENI THE PRESIDENT, PARTICIPATED IN THE IX PRIMAKOV READINGS 2023 HELD IN MOSCOW AT THE WORLD TRADE CENTRE OF MOSCOW HELD ON 27-28 TH NOVEMBER 2023
The Primakov Readings and the Primakov National Research institute of World Economy and international Relations is an International Forum that is dedicated to trends and problems of international security, World politics and economics. The Forum is attended by Russian and Foreign experts, Politicians and Diplomats. The theme of the Forum was ‘Horizons of Post-Globalization’ H.E the President was a panelist to discuss the Russia-Africa cooperation: From pragmatic guidelines to practical results. H.E the president gave a brief history of the relations between the Soviet Union and particularly Russia in the independence of the African continent. The President he highlighted that the need for cooperation for economic development and transformation which are African needs.
He pointed out four factors needed for practical results; These included;
Human resource development, through education and vocational training which is being
done by the African countries and by partner states.
Infrastructural development for ease of movement and connectivity i.e. the, roads railways
electricity ICT backbone which calls for collaborating with partners like Russia and china
Investments in production of goods and services, through manufacturing and value addition.
The President invited investors from Russia to invest in Africa and produce goods and
services.
Markets for the produced goods, available in the internal markets of EAC, Africa through
the African Continental Free trade. He added that African products also needed markets of
Russia, China India, Middle East and West. The President further noted that goods
produced from countries like Russia, China also needed markets in Africa, a cooperation
empowers both partners, by providing market access which is beneficial to all.
